1:35 pm - Star Trek 09 - Village!verse
Village!verse by chaletian. It takes a village...

Status: 19 short stories. Ongoing.

While not perfect, this is a good, relaxing humour series which is mostly gen. It's even got a few touching moments. Characters are mostly in character (when they aren't, it's usually for comic affect), and the on going jokes and gags are great. There are some priceless moments too, like Kirk's choice of movie on movie night and Spock's practical joke. It's basically a set of stories about how the crew are a family. Nicely done.

4:55 pm - Star Trek 09 - Unplanned Parenthood
Unplanned Parenthood by waketosleep. Kirk and Spock are turned into children. McCoy suffers.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

The best of the deaging fics to come from the reboot. It wins because it doesn't go for cloying, but just for Kirk and Spock being who they are while McCoy had to deal with them all. McCoy's pov of view was perfect, and he had some great lines.

3:21 pm - Star Trek 09 - The Helmsman
The Helmsman by imadra_blue. Moments of Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

Sulu needs more love, and I liked the way this fic gently worked around all the complaints or odd points of Sulu's canon character, integrating them with a deft touch. I also enjoyed the differences between this Sulu and TOS!Sulu being pointed out by Spock Prime.

12:49 am - Star Trek 09 - Ten Sessions
Ten Sessions by dira. Jim could be fantastically thoughtless except when being thoughtful would embarrass McCoy more.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

For some reason, I never imagined Starfleet would try to cure Bones of his fear of flying, but this is a great fic dealing with it. I loved Jim in this cause he's him, but he's also an awesome friend, and the little issue he helped Bones deal with was done so matter of factly, that you could really see how wise Jim will be in the years to come. Good stuff.

12:00 am - Star Trek 09 - The Unveiled Secret
The Unveiled Secret by laurajv. "What was silent in the father speaks in the son, and often I found in the son the unveiled secret of the father." -- Friedrich Nietzsche

Status: One-shot. Complete.

I've been looking for a satisfying version of a Spock Prime and Sarek conversation, and while this one isn't perfect, it's pretty close. Nicely done.

9:47 am - Star Trek 09 - At the going down of the sun
At the going down of the sun by cupiscent. "Rules of the universe," he declares, and then corrects himself before Spock can get his astrophysics on. "Rules of humanity. Warriors who've drawn weapons, shed blood, triumphed together must drink together." (The consequences of actions, and the rules that you cannot bend or ignore.)

Status: One-shot. Complete.

This is a lovely, melancoly character piece following Kirk and his crew in the aftermath of Nero. It is, basically, a well written wake.

12:06 am - Star Trek /Le Petit Prince - The Little Vulcan
The Little Vulcan by ayalesca. Trek/The Little Prince fusion fic. Spock, Kirk, McCoy gen.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

Not nearly as heart breaking as The Little Prince thankfully. While I think it could have strayed a bit more from The Little Prince story, I appreciated the ending and the beautiful artwork enough to rec this. Her choice of characters to fufill the rolls in the story was excellent. Enjoy.

3:31 pm - Star Trek 09 - It's All in the Delivery
It's All in the Delivery by july-july-july. "You have a bigger problem than being held at gunpoint by Ikkelian raiders?" Spock/Uhura

Status: One-shot. Complete.

I feel I should warn for pregnancy and all the craziness that goes with it in this fic. It's really hilarious with space pirates and Kirk having to deliver. Go read it and laugh.

2:08 pm - Star Trek 09 - We are air
We are air by _seven_crows. Five anniversaries and birthdays of the Enterprise crew.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

A beautiful look at a variety of celebrations on the Enterprise. Spock's speech to an unconscious Kirk was priceless. I enjoyed the joking around by Chekov and Sulu too. While mostly humour, there are some lovely poignant moments and a great sense of camaraderie suffuses this fic.

12:59 am - Star Trek 09 - Northern Cities Vowel Shift
Northern Cities Vowel Shift by brown_betty. None of this makes any sense, really. Jim's barely laid a hand on her, if he doesn't count the occasional hand-up over difficult terrain, or accidental (mostly accidental) groping when an explosion throws his bridge crew around, and Jim doesn't count that, because if he counted that he'd be at third base with Keenser by now.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

I think I'm a sucker for strong Uhura fics regardless of who she's paired up with. I really liked how all the characters were portrayed in this one - it felt very real. (Also, I'm very amused that the author considered it important to show that Kirk/Spock wasn't working before pushing the Kirk/Uhura *L*)

10:51 pm - Good Omens - 100 Things Crowley Would Do Before the World Ended
100 Things Crowley Would Do Before the World Ended by shewhoguards. Other people plan 100 things to do before they die. Crowley planned 100 things before EVERYBODY died.

Status: Long one-shot. Complete.

This fic is surprisingly insightful. In fact, I loved Crowley's conversation with the priest, and the ending. The timing of all the song lyrics was entertaining and Crowley himself was beautifully characterized. This fic also has the benefit of working as a sequel to Good Omens. Well worth a read.

2:08 pm - Dresden Files/Merlin - The Once and Future Pain In My Ass
The Once and Future Pain in My Ass by ras_elased. "This has got to be the worst ambush ever. I'm feeling a little insulted, actually." Harry Dresden has had a lot of cases—a lot of weird cases—but this one may take the cake. Or the crown. Whatever.

Status: One-shot. Possibly complete.

My two problems with this fic are that a) it has a bit too much exposition on Harry's part and b) It really does need another chapter or something to finish it despite what the author thinks. That being said, Harry's voice is perfect in this fic with some great sarcasm. I also loved the way the crossover, with Merlin in the modern day, was handled (also the bit with Harry's mother). Well worth a look if you're a fan of either series. (Also, it's listed as slash, but I've labelled it gen because the story really didn't present itself with pairings or whatnot.)

10:34 am - Death Note - Adaptation
Adaptation by Silver Pard. Even Light’s plans don’t take spontaneously changing gender into account. Fortunately, he can adapt.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

This fic is just funny, combining one of my favourite tropes (crossdressing/gender switch) perfectly with Death Note. Nicely done.

2:47 pm - ST: TOS - Transition
Transition by anyonerelevant. Spock's first experience with the new Captain of Enterprise.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

I really like prequel scenes of Spock's first meeting with Kirk. This one in particular I'm reccing cause it's such a nice example of why Kirk's a good captain. Worth a look.

3:48 pm - Star Trek 09 - Collecting Fallout from the Blast
Collecting Fallout from the Blast by northatlantic. "Some day, you're going to tell me this story, right? I mean, with a name like Tiberius, there has to be a story."

Status: One-shot. Complete.

This is rather angsty, but I liked something about the progression of the story from Jim's seventh birthday onwards as measured against his grandfather's aging. The little details really make this story, though occasionally it's a bit too vague.

1:14 am - Star Trek 09 - Somebody Leave the Light On
Somebody Leave the Light On by walksbyherself. Love is much too simple a word for how she feels about her little boy.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

There's something very simple about this story. You read it and go, "Yes. Of course. This is how it happened. It's obvious." And it works. I like this Winona.

9:57 pm - Star Trek: TOS - Summer Camp
Summer Camp by Syl. Jimmy Kirk arrives on Tarsus IV in time for a planet- wide disaster. He and his companions must evade capture by Kodos' troops and free the colonists that have been condemned to death.

Status: 3 chapters. Complete. (There is a sequel called Honor Code about Kirk's first years in the Academy)

Don't be fooled by the adventure novel like summary up there. While there are moments of light-heartedness, this fic goes deep into the atrocities on Tarsus IV with lots of angst, death, and horror. Jim's perhaps pushing gary-stuism at times, and I almost didn't rec this cause the final climax battle scene didn't make a lot of sense, but you really won't find a more in depth story about what happened on Tarsus IV. It's an interesting story to boot with great OCs, so go read.

4:27 pm - Star Trek 09 - Under Orders
Under Orders by califmole. Knowing is only half the battle.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

I have a weakness for good fics dealing with Tarsus IV. There are a lot of emotional ones out there, but this one, dealt with from afar, was equally satisfying as both a way of filling in canon, and showing you Pike's character. I think the first scene is a little confusing, but other than that, it's a good fic.

10:44 am - Star Trek 09/Enterprise - Problem with Authority
Problem with Authority by robanybody. Pike sends Kirk to Archer because Kirk keeps picking fights and mouthing off at the Academy.

Status: One-shot. Complete (but there do seem to be Pike/Archer sequels which I'm not going to read)

I never thought there was a fic out there that could make me think fondly of Enterprise, but this portrayal of Archer (even if the timeline is off... not to mention, how the fuck do the dogs live that long, nevermind the humans??) is really nice. I like how he and Kirk bonded, and that it all felt right. Good job.

1:41 pm - Star Trek 09 - When I was Invincible
When I was Invincible by robanybody. When it happens, all Kirk can think is 'Not again'.

Status: One-shot. Complete.

This is a very funny fic about Kirk ending up in a transporter accident (again) and in Spock Prime's time back in the first five year mission (I assume). Jim reaction is pretty entertaining, and the only thing I wish was that we'd seen the other side of it was TOS!Kirk in nuTrek's universe.
