10:42 pm - Daredevil (comics) - Fixed
|
Fixed by ion_bond. Follows “The Devil in Cellblock D” arc with spoilers. A conversation between Foggy and Matt.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
There are a lot of different things going on in this fic, which is impressive considering it's just two men sharing a beer after work. Matt's thoughts are pretty, if melancholy. I really liked some of the imagery. It probably won't make a lot of sense if you don't know what happened in the comics though.

11:14 pm - Star Trek 09 - Lunch and Other Obscenities
|
Lunch and Other Obscenities by rheanna27. Nyota liked her roommate just fine until she met her.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
This is probably the best new ST fic out there. Uhura and her room mate are wonderful. The idea of culture clash and mixing is deftly explored, and I liked the introduction of Spock. All in all, very well done.

12:00 pm - Star Trek 09 - From the Greek "xenos"
|
From the Greek "xenos" by pogrebin. Spock/Uhura, pre-film. With surprisingly little actual Spock/Uhura. More Uhura. With a side of Gaila being awesome, because she is.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
I like this Uhura character study because it's simple, and shows an unapologetic, well-rounded Uhura. The only thing I would change is having a link with the first paragraph to later in the story. Nicely done.

The Writing on the Wall by Lanaea. Captain Kirk sees fit to improve the literary attempts of an anonymous crew member.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
Amusing. I like Kirk's characterization and it has a killer last line.

11:54 pm - Rurouni Kenshin/Temeraire - Dragons of the Revolution
|
Dragons of the Revolution by Vathara. In a world where a British captain is the adopted son of the Emperor, the Opium Wars probably didn't happen... meaning the Revolution may be very, very different.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
I like this idea a lot. I'd always wondered what happened in Japan in regards to the Temeraire world. It doesn't quite work timeline wise (since the bakumatsu was in 1868 and the Napoleonic wars were in the first decade of 1800) but whatever. It's a fun fusion idea that was executed excellently. I particularly liked the addition of Kaoru's father (who I'm sure will be a good influence on Kenshin) and Sano's introduction. Nicely done.

3:38 pm - Star Trek 09 - Lost in Translation

Lost in Translation by callmecrazy83. When we speak, do we ever really say what we mean? A story of how Uhura and Spock were able to translate each other, from the very beginning.
Status: 1 chapter. Ongoing.
I'm not sure if I'm going to enjoy reading more of this story, but I like what's there so far. It's plausible and Uhura's pov is excellently done.

2:28 pm - Supernatural/X-files - Late Nite at the Sudzy Dudz
|
Late Night at the Sudzy Dudz by se_parsons. Scully's doing laundry with the help of a friendly father and his sons while Mulder investigates cattle mutilations.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
This is an excellent crossover. There's no confrontations, but Scully is observant enough to pick up the key essentials to the Winchesters without ever figuring out the truth. Meanwhile, there's a nice sense of humour and it's cute to see these guys run into each other without carnage following.

2:15 pm - Pirates of the Caribbean - Turn your sail (never say we die)
|
Turn Your Sail (Never Say We Die) by mercurial wit. You grow accustomed to wrangling news of the Pirate King from the ferried souls, sifting through rumour and wild hyperbole and foreign locations that are several weeks out of date, finding just enough to let you know that she is well.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
Although a little melancholy, this fic manages to make the end of the POTC better (assuming you ignore the intended, but not very well defined interpretation of the ending), and more poetic than the movie ever managed. It's haunting, and refreshing, especially at the end.

The Sith Who Brought Life Day by ophelia. An Imperial officer loses a bet and has to get Darth Vader a present for Life Day.

This is really funny and cute. The OC is nicely realized, and the plot is interesting and really fills in a gap in canon.

Layers of Pretense by MarbleGlove. The Center attracts all sorts of dangerous people.

This is a really interesting interpretation of the Four Horsemen, and also a great ending/beginning for the Pretender series. It's a unique and interesting crossover.

11:02 pm - Labyrinth - Her Kingdom as Great
|
Her Kingdom as Great by MarbleGlove. What’s said is said, and Sarah said, “My Will is as Strong as Yours and my Kingdom as Great.” And then, of course, she lied.
Status: 2 chapters. Ongoing.
The first chapter of this fic starts up a little slow and unwieldy, but once the author hits her stride, it's excellent. I really liked how it interpreted the words of the story to make a new and interesting future for Sarah, plus added in semi-logical explanations of goblins and kings etc. The second chapter was even better. And though it does pair Sarah and Jareth, it's not a sappy romance. Nicely done.

Desk Duty by Mosylu. A librarian's job is never done . . . especially not at Hogwarts . . . and especially when a certain toadlike High Inquisitor is nosing around.

This? This is totally what happened while Umbridge was at Hogwarts. Excellently done and an inspiration to librarians everywhere;)

4:17 pm - Dresden Files/Good Omens - The Dresden Omens
|
The Dresden Omens 2 3 by shiplizard. In which a demon (who did not fall from grace so much as saunter vaguely downward) is sent to tempt a hero (who's reluctant at best) and has some trouble with the job. Some slash.
Status: 2 chapters, plus epilogues. Complete.
Shiplizard's Crowley voice is just excellent here, and I love just how much trouble the poor demon has trying to get close enough to even tempt Harry, and then when he does, Harry makes it personal, and things just go haywire. I'm not really sure who I feel more sorry for. I also think it's rather appropriate that both Crowley and Azirphale's meddling only leads to Marcone and Harry snogging. It's so... Crowley and Azirphale. It's got a nice, simple ending too.

2:12 pm - Dresden Files - Mystery Solved
|
Mystery Solved by LogicMouse. Who was really responsible for fixing Little Chicago? For that matter, who really broke it?
Status: 8 chapters. Complete.
It's adorable to read a fic from Mouse's pov. I love how it showcases just how much Mouse understands and how much he might be doing behind the scenes. Also, I've always wanted to see Harry's cleaning brownies, so yay!

12:57 am - Dresden Files/Bridge of Birds series - The Fable of Joyful Wing
|
The Fable of Joyful Wing by shiplizard. A fable set in Ancient China, featuring a surprisingly familiar narrator. Set in the same universe as Barry Hughart's Bridge of Birds, but not quite a crossover - A (scruffy, smartass) sage of Peking goes to hell and back for his ghostly mentor.
Status: Long one-shot. Complete.
It's rare to find a fusion of two universes that's as good as this one. The Dresden files translates surprisingly well into the Chinese setting and the author put a lot of thought into people's names and backgrounds. It's mostly bookverse, but with Bob as he is in the tv series. The portrayal of Harry and Marcone in particular were brilliant, and I really liked the whole quest Harry went on, and how he met so many characters from the books, some of them very well disguised. Also, I got a little teary eyed at the end there. Very well executed, and worth a read even if you don't know the Bridge of Birds series, especially if you like happy endings;)

10:06 am - Merlin - Mcgyffen
|
Mcgyffen by Srin. Arthur drags Merlin along on a quest. As it turns out Arthur isn’t seeking what Merlin thought he was seeking, but they find it just the same.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
I really like the emotions and relationship beneath the basic story here. Arthur really cares about Merlin as a friend, and I like that there's still fallout from the questing beast. There's some Monty-python ish humour as well, but mostly it's just about the boys.

9:38 am - Merlin - The Wages of Gossip
|
The Wages of Gossip by Srin. In which Morgana has a secret, (which Gwen shares,) Arthur is determined to uncover the truth, and Merlin learns a great many things he doesn’t want to know and one thing he does. Merlin/Arthur, Gwen/Morgana
Status: One-shot. Complete.
I felt the urge to rec something fluffy and silly and this fit the bill. It's surprisingly in character with Arthur being a bit of an arse, Morgana teasing him, and Merlin and Gwen going along with the craziness. The theme of gossip was nicely carried out and it had a satisfying ending.

What Marcone Saw by Gehayi. Sometimes Marcone wonders just why he was permitted to see Harry Dresden's soul twice.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
This is a great pov fic giving us Marcone's side of the story since we're intimately familiar with Harry's. I enjoyed it and thought it was a good interpretation.

3:56 pm - Dresden Files/SGA - The Stargate Files
|
The Stargate Files by enigel. Portals in the NeverNever really can open on anywhere.
Status: One-shot. Complete.
Although not quite as satisfying as I hoped it would be (poor Harry doesn't get much snark in), I enjoyed this nice, gen crossover of the two series. Harry has a lot of fun fighting the Wraith and McKay is predictably annoyed at the idea of magic and wizards. I think the author could have shown a bit more than told (several no-doubt amusing conversations are glossed over), but other than that, it was good.
